When I first heard about makeup setting sprays I assumed they would ruin your makeup but it’s quite the opposite. As a woman with oily/combo skin these sprays are a lifesaver (hyperbole obvs). I never knew how much these setting sprays would improve my makeup but they really do!
Urban Decay all nighter Makeup Setting Spray currently retails at £22 for 118ml. It lasts a long time as you only need a few sprays to set your makeup. It hasn’t got a strong smell, the spray is very light and it comes out of the nozzle without making your face too wet. The instructions suggest spraying in a T and X formation.
I absolutely LOVE this setting spray. It’s made a huge difference to how long my makeup lasts. I used to rely solely on powder but this does a better job.
I decided that it is my duty for this blog to find a good drugstore setting spray as I know not everyone will want to fork out £22 😉
I bought the Maybelline Super Stay 24 and L’oreal Infallible Fixing Mist from Boots. I tested both setting sprays with a full face of makeup (moisturiser, primer, foundation, powder, blush, highlighter, mascara, brows, eyeshadow).
The L’oreal Fixing Mist (£7.99 100ml) worked well but I didn’t like the smell or the weird white dusty film it left on my face. It wasn’t crazy noticeable but enough that it bugged me and I didn’t like how it made my skin feel.
I really like the Maybelline Super Stay 24. It hasn’t got a strong smell, it didn’t leave a funny film on my face and it made my makeup last just as well as Urban Decay’s all nighter! The only thing that lets this product down is the quantity. It’s a 75ml bottle so it will run out quicker than a traditional 100ml bottle. Other than that it’s fab!
If you want to avoid the cakey foundation look then try a makeup setting spray. Your makeup will last longer, you’ll need less powder and you’ll look totally matte with a flawless base. I’m a true convert 🙂
